I just wanted to drop you a wee note to let you know that I’m having a great time here at the yeah write summer camp so far.
It’s only week one, but I’m really enjoying getting settled in and meeting my camp mates and assigned tutor.
I’m hoping that these guys will help me to knock my children’s book into shape, chapter by chapter, with their collective constructive criticism.
I’m going to be here for the next six weeks or so and shall also be reading and providing feedback to my camp mates on their WIPs.
Who knows, I might even get the chance to submit some new material if time permits.
My camp mates all seem like a really talented bunch, from genres right across the spectrum.
We are all here for critique and to develop and/or refine our writing projects. We have been well warned to leave our pride of authorship at the camp’s main gates.
This is a little daunting if I’m being completely honest!
As camp mates, we are all there to help one another, and that means being brutally honest. Trying to highlight both what works and what doesn’t from the reader perspective will be really helpful in enabling us to take a step back from our dialogues as part of the editing process.
The prospect of putting myself out there for the specific purpose of criticism terrifies me, but I need to do this for me and I think it will make me the better writer for it.
I’m due to receive my first detailed one-on-one feedback from my tutor later this week before spending the weekend revising chapters 1 and 2.
In the meantime, I shall be hanging out with the others and talking shop.
I can’t wait!
I shall keep you posted from time to time over the coming weeks about how it’s all going.
Other than that, the camp beds are comfy and the food ain’t bad.
Wish you were here!
